<p>The Zone diet does not recommend that you eat fewer calories than you&#8217;re currently consuming, just different ones. The book has a more complex measurement of what to eat, it can be simplified into a few words. Generally it calls for a serving of protein, carbohydrate and a fat. Carbohydrates should be twice the size of the protein and include most vegetables, lentils, beans, whole grains, and most fruits. Smaller amounts of carbohydrates if you have chosen &#8220;unfavorable&#8221; ones these include brown rice, pasta, papaya, mango, banana, dry breakfast cereal, bread, bagel, tortilla, carrots, and all fruit juices.The plan establishes a ratio for which Sears (founder of The Zone Diet) contends the body is genetically programmed to a 40% carbs 30% fat and 30% protein diet. Sears bases his theory on using diet to control the body&#8217;s production of the hormone insulin. Among insulin&#8217;s many roles, it helps regulate storage of excess energy as fat, and the reason why being in the Zone has benefited many dieters.</p>

The Zone is primarily about being in balance. If you notice the meals are well rounded which embody carbohydrates (good ones), protein and fat. This means nothing is off limits it just needs to be balanced with other nurtrients so the body can easily control the insulin levels. It&#8217;s a concept that is heavily criticized because Dr. Sears has only elaborated on subjects that are easily marketed to the consumer. For example he doesn&#8217;t devise a plan on tackling the factors that also determine how hungry we get and how much we eat, such as fiber and the caloric density of the food. The better attributes of The Zone Diet is that you&#8217;ll have energy for an active lifestyle. You will also be consuming a low carbohydrate diet, studies have shown that lowering carbohydrates is extremely beneficial for weight loss, heart disease,  high blood pressure, and diabetes.</p>
